Carl Asche
Professor Carl V. Asche, M.B.A., M.Sc. (Health Economics), Ph.D. (Economics), has been appointed the Executive Director of the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center (PORC) at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy beginning July 1, 2023. Dr. Asche succeeds Professor Diana Brixner, Ph.D., F.A.M.C.P., who founded PORC and served as the Executive Director for more than 20 years, as she continues her phased retirement.
The 20 years of academic oriented outcomes research and leadership experience that Dr. Asche brings to the position will serve to continue PORC’s mission of international recognition for outstanding contributions to improved patient care via outcomes research and assessment. Dr. Asche also serves as the Director of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program in the Department of Pharmacotherapy, along with appointments as Research Service WOC employee, Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Healthcare System; and Associate Member, Cancer Control and Population Sciences Research Program at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Diana Brixner
The Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center (PORC) at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in Salt Lake City, Utah, was founded in 2002 by Dr. Brixner. “PORC’s vision is to grow our international recognition for outstanding contributions to improved patient care via outcomes research and assessment,” said Dr. Asche. “Our mission is to design and conduct outcomes research studies that assess the value of therapy and health interventions, generating evidence to inform health care decision making.” PORC research is research funded by a variety of federal agencies, foundations, and pharmaceutical companies. PORC has contributed hundreds of publications on real-world evidence to support informed decision-making by patient providers and patients regarding the value of new technologies in health care.
