As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure safety at the University of Utah, the offices of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) and Radiation Safety (RSO) will integrate into one departmental unit, effective May 1, 2019.

The new unit will assume the current operational responsibilities from OEHS and RSO, and is in the process of being renamed the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). This merger will catalyze on the strengths of both units and is intended to increase efficiency, enhance services, improve inspection enforcement ability and prioritize a culture of safety across the university.

As a part of the integration, Fred A. Monette has been appointed as interim executive director of EHS, and will report directly to the Vice President for Research Andy Weyrich. Monette currently serves as the director of RSO and brings extensive experience as a board-certified health physicist with over 25 years in radiological protection. We look forward to working with Monette, and the leadership and staff of EHS, to support safety on campus.

The EHS integration will be an ongoing process over the next few months. We are dedicated to making this transition as seamless as possible for university clients and customers. Health and safety are a top priority for our campus. We will continue to work together to provide effective resources and services to promote the well-being and protection of students, faculty and staff at the University of Utah.
