Department of Public Safety receives Trail Blazer award

The Department of Public Safety at the University of Utah today announced that it has received a Rave Mobile Safety Trailblazer award, an annual recognition given to Rave customers and partners honoring their innovation in public safety. The awards will be announced as part of Rave’s annual Summit, September 27-29, 2022.

Rave Alert is the platform supporting the U’s Campus Alert system. The Department of Public Safety was recognized for a number of innovations, including using the Common Alerting Protocol feature in Rave Alert to concurrently publish emergency notifications to a high-capacity website to provide more context and information in an SMS alert than just a 160-character text message. Public Safety has also recently partnered with staff from the Athletics Department and Rice-Eccles Stadium and Event Services to enable an opt-in SMS option for stadium visitors that are not in the Campus Alert system. The feature was used for a real-world notification on its’ first day in use.

“Rave has been a great partner and provided innovative technology to support our emergency response efforts. We can respond better and deliver critical information to our campus community through a number of channels,” said Stuart Moffatt, Interim Director of Emergency Management. “We’re pleased to receive the 2022 Rave Trailblazer award recognizing our efforts in keeping people safe and innovating around our safety processes.”
