There are now two SafeU apps available to members of the University of Utah community: one for safety concerns on main campus, and one for University of Utah Health Care. The move is being made to help enhance user experience and get you the help you need, where and when you need it.
Both apps are available in the app store of your choice beginning on August 14, 2023. The app for main campus is labeled “SafeU,” while the app for the health campus is labeled “SafeU Health.” Depending on where you work or attend classes you may want to download either or both. It’s up to you!
All of the features you have come to depend on are still available on the SafeU app for main campus, including:
- Friend walk allows you to send your location and destination to a friend, allowing them to track you on your journey. There is also a panic button option to alert your friend of an emergency and call emergency services.
- I’m OK sends your location and a pre-populated message to contacts in your phone to indicate that you are OK. The feature uses the GPS location of the device and includes it as a link in the message you send to your contact.
- Work alone is a way to use the app to check in on you at regular intervals when you find yourself in a lab, office, or other space alone. The feature can even automatically trigger a distress call to a contact in their phone or alert emergency services. Watch this video to learn more about how it works.
Members of the U of U Health community should refer to this article about features of the app designed for the health care campus.
Both SafeU apps also include emergency resources and plans, essential phone numbers, and links for tip reporting.
