After 24 years of service to the University of Utah Jim Haisley will retire from the Office of General Counsel on June 30, 2020. Haisley has served as Deputy General Counsel since 2016. In addition to providing sophisticated legal advice on numerous complex and important transactions in support of the growth and success of the university—especially in health sciences (including University of Utah Health and ARUP Laboratories)—Haisley has been a highly valued member of the health sciences leadership team, contributing insightful and practical business acumen to solving problems. He has also been a tremendous partner and mentor to his colleagues in the OGC and in Health Sciences Risk Management.

After Haisley departs Brian Watts will step into the role of Deputy General Counsel for the University of Utah beginning July 1, 2020. He will serve in this role along with Robert Payne, who has served as Deputy General Counsel since February 1, 2019. Watts has been with the Office of General Counsel since 2007 and has served for the past six years as the Chief Compliance Officer for University of Utah Health while maintaining a part-time role as Associate General Counsel.
