Catherine B. Soehner has been appointed associate dean for research and director of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah. Michael L. Good, senior vice president for Health Sciences, and Alberta D. Comer, dean and university librarian made the joint announcement.
“Catherine Soehner is the right person for this important leadership position,” said Good. “The Eccles Health Sciences Library is a valuable resource for our health science colleges and schools, the School of Medicine and our entire health care operation.”
Prior to her appointment as director, Soehner served as interim director for EHSL, dating back to July 2018. She has worked for eight years at J. Willard Marriott Library, as associate dean, where she led the delivery of a wide range of library services, including research and information services.
“We are delighted Catherine is continuing her role as our associate dean for research,” said Comer. “She has the tremendous ability for work within libraries as well as with faculty, students and staff across campus.”
Before the U, Soehner served in academic libraries at the University of Michigan and the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as the National Library of Medicine. Soehner was awarded a Master of Library Science from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati.
