A new center is centralizing student resources at the University of Utah.
Created as part of the campus reorganization required by H.B. 261, “Equal Opportunity Initiatives,” the Center for Student Access and Resources, CSAR, will manage cohort programs focused on student retention, graduation and career readiness, as well as over $2 million in scholarship opportunities. CSAR will also house student resource navigators who will connect students with the support they need to succeed at the U and beyond.
“This center will help make a very big campus feel a little bit smaller,” said Kirstin Maanum, director of CSAR and the former director of the Women’s Resource Center. “Our center will serve as a resource connector and provide students a warm hand-off as they access the services they need.”
CSAR will feature familiar faces, as many staff members from the U’s former cultural centers, including the Black Cultural Center, the Center for Equity and Student Belonging, and the Women’s Resource Center have been reassigned to the center. In the combined center, they will continue to support students, help promote scholarships, facilitate scholarship cohorts, and make referrals to campus resources, including mental health counseling and victim advocates.
“We are excited about the talent and expertise our new staff features,” Maanum said. “This new center brings together an extraordinary group of people who will collaboratively work together to help all U students succeed.”
Other services at CSAR include offering skill-building workshops and housing a student lounge located in Room 411 on the 4th floor of the A. Ray Olpin Student Union, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
