Mental health help available through Employee Assistance Program

According to a report published by the Utah Women and Leadership Project, suicide is the 8th leading cause of death in Utah and an average of 70 Utahns are treated for self-inflicted injuries per day.  See the full report here.

The University’s Employee Assistance Program is here to help.  Through the end of 2022, the EAP is open to all faculty and staff, regardless of benefits eligibility.  Employees, their spouses, partners, and children can schedule an appointment with a licensed therapist by calling (801) 587-9319 or (800) 926-9619.

The EAP is also offering some upcoming virtual workshops:

Retirement plan account fee changes

UHRM has been working with the Retirement Plans Advisory Committee to review several aspects of the University’s retirement plans for employees.  We are pleased to announce that beginning October 1, 2022, the way fees are charged on accounts will change to a flat amount based on total account balances with each recordkeeper.  Any revenue-sharing fees built into a fund’s expense ratio and previously applied as account fees will be refunded to each participant’s account as a credit. Retirement plan participants will see these new quarterly fees on their January statements.

Effective October 1, 2022, account fees will be the following:

The fee differences between the two recordkeepers is the result of larger university account balances with TIAA, allowing relatively the same dollar amount of recordkeeping fees to be spread over more accounts.

Financial literacy and retirement education

In a recent poll of a random sample of University of Utah employees, financial literacy and debt management support was one of the top ten additional benefits employees had on their wish lists.  Our partners are offering several virtual educational options in the coming months:
