THE U NEEDS U

This year’s Employee Appreciation Day celebration is Thursday, Sept. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. All U employees, including student employees, are invited.

Employee Appreciation Day couldn’t happen without the help of generous U employees who volunteer one or two hours of their time during Employee Appreciation Day. All volunteers receive a T-shirt and a pair of athletic tickets.

“I enjoy volunteering at Employee Appreciation Day because I get a chance to meet fellow employees that I would not have crossed paths with any other way,” said Amy Tolman, human resources specialist in the Division of Human Resources. “Also, how often do you get to try to kick a field goal? Just a little bit of my time can make an enjoyable day for others.”

To volunteer, please fill out this form, where you’ll be able to choose the time of day that works best for you and the type of work you’d prefer. A committee member will respond to confirm your assignment.

Proud of the College of Fine Arts

The University of Utah College of Fine Arts is home to roughly 300 faculty and staff across five academic units: departments of Art & Art History, Film & Media Arts and Theatre; and the schools of Dance and Music. Each one of the individuals in the college plays a critical role in creating spaces where artists and art scholars can explore, take risks, create, research and hone the ability to think creatively and critically — not just in making beauty, but in tackling some of the toughest challenges of the 21st century.

The College of Fine Arts welcomes John W. Schieb as the new dean. After earning his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in music education, Scheib began his academic career at Ball State University where he held a number of leadership positions, including director of the School of Music. For the past three years, he has served as the director of the School of Music at the University of Kentucky. In that role, Scheib has implemented several well-regarded budget and personnel initiatives. He has significant experience with capital campaigns and has developed programming aimed at improving student and faculty success, as well as enhancing access to the arts. He is recognized for his talent as a keen listener who works with his team, including community members, to build and enact vision and strategy to advance the arts.

Everyone at the college is thrilled to welcome not only Scheib, but also all the new faculty and staff members who have joined us in serving the College of Fine Arts, the University of Utah and the global arts community.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Employee Appreciation Day couldn’t happen without the help of generous U employees who volunteer one or two hours of their time during Employee Appreciation Day. All volunteers receive a T-shirt and a pair of athletic tickets. Volunteers are still needed for this year.

To volunteer, please fill out this form, where you’ll be able to choose the time of day that works best for you and the type of work you’d prefer. A committee member will respond to confirm your assignment.
