Campus is abuzz

The Hive Pizzeria is a new dining location on campus and is open to all students and the public from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. every day.

Have you heard the buzz? We’ve got your late-night snack cravings covered. The Hive Pizzeria is a new dining location on campus and is open to all students and the public 7 p.m.-2 a.m. every day.

Director of Housing & Residential Education Barb Remsburg said, “The Hive was developed in collaboration with Chartwells Dining Services, to be a place for students to socialize, connect and eat together as a late-night neighborhood restaurant.” After receiving feedback from residents and students that campus needed a late-night dining option, The Hive was born.

Interesting fact, The Hive’s name was chosen as a result of a naming contest that HRE coordinated. This contest was open to residents, students, employees and the community. The Residence Halls Association assisted in narrowing down the top picks, then HRE and Chartwells leadership selected the winning name. The logo design for The Hive was also developed by an HRE Student Leader and HRE graphic design student intern Omar Tsai.

The Hive is located in upper-campus just south of Benchmark Plaza and is walking distance from Red Butte Garden amphitheater. The menu includes unique pizza, wings, sandwiches, desserts and more. Meal plans are accepted, and students are able to use Dining Dollars or a transfer meal.

The Hive Express in the Union food court opened in July 2018. The same great menu is available when you’re on the go. Meal plans are also accepted at this location.

This historic building was originally a part of the Fort Douglas Army Reserve. More recently, the building was home to Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Adventure building. “Given that we are on the side of the foothills and that the space was previously used as the home of the Outdoor Adventure program, we wanted to maintain that presence in the space,” said Remsburg. The photos of the building’s history are displayed inside The Hive.

In addition to good eats, the atmosphere at The Hive is ideal for your new go-to spot on campus. Inside there is cool seating, TVs on walls and entertainment such as board games, video game tournaments and more. In addition, outside of the building guests can enjoy ping pong tables, a sand volleyball court and basketball court.

So, whether you need some late-night food to fuel your late study night, or just want a new spot to hang with friends, The Hive is here for you. Make your way over, and give the food a taste for yourself. See you there!
