The lineup of Hinckley Forums for the 2023-24 school year started off strong with conversations featuring each of Utah’s U.S. senators.
“Having Sen. Mitt Romney and Sen. Mike Lee visit the Hinckley Institute and engage with the students was a great way to kick off this school year,” said Morgan Lyon Cotti, associate director of the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute. “It provided a unique opportunity for students to connect with some of our country’s leaders and sparked their interest in civic engagement.”
Romney and Lee, both Republicans, visited the U’s campus as part of the Sutherland Institute’s 2023 Congressional Series. Romney visited during lunchtime on Aug. 21 and addressed a variety of issues, including supply chains, China, artificial intelligence, inflation and a possible recession. Lee came on Aug. 22 afternoon and discussed federalism, separation of powers and regulatory reform, among other things. Recordings of each of the forums can be found here and here.
The series will continue next week with a forum featuring U.S. Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah.
