Questions or comments about AI at the U? Drop into AI office hours

University of Utah faculty, staff and students with questions or suggestions about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) are encouraged to attend virtual office hours held by the AI leadership team every Friday from noon to 1 pm.

These weekly meetings give the entire campus community informal access to the U’s top AI research and policy experts. Attendees can use the time to brainstorm use cases, discuss best practices, understand what’s allowed, find collaborators, suggest new tools and more.

Office hours are one way the U is working to strengthen AI literacy—the most relevant discussions will be shared with the campus community, including via an FAQ webpage. Feedback may also shape future AI strategy and tool procurement.

Each meeting is led by at least two members of the AI leadership team, which includes research, AI, IT and compliance officials from across campus:

  • Manish Parashar, chief AI officer and director of the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute
  • Caren Frost, associate vice president for research integrity and compliance
  • Clayton Norlen, associate director of IT, Office of the Vice President for Research
  • Shawn Halladay, U of U Health associate director of artificial intelligence
  • Bebe Vanek, U of U Health information privacy administrator, Compliance Services
  • Penny Atkins, director of research and science, One-U Responsible AI Initiative at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute

Outside of AI office hours, questions regarding AI tools and use can also be submitted at ai.utah.edu/support.php.
