Festivus returns to the U

The U of U Student Union is bringing back a holiday tradition. This year is the return of “Festivus for the rest of us.”

For years, the Union hosted an event called Festivus, a takeoff from a popular 90’s sitcom. However, for the last 4 years, the theme was changed to Winter Wonderland. But this year, organizers are bringing back the original.

“The name is based on a famous Seinfeld episode called, ‘Festivus for the Rest of Us,'” said Student Services Director Branden Dailey. “We moved away from the theme some years back because very few people were familiar with it. Now that Seinfeld is back on Netflix, it seems to have much more traction.”

“(The event includes) food and games since the union is the community center of campus,” he said. “This has been a great way to gather together for some fun before the Christmas break.”

Dailey said there will be room for up to 350 people to join in the community gathering scheduled for December 13 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Union lobby. Participants can partake in some treats, activities and listen to music.
