Imagine yourself next semester in a whole new world—living and working as a young professional in another country.
You’ve met great people through the office where you work and now you’re a regular at the little cafés and shops along your daily route. Every day, you’re putting your knowledge and skills to the test outside the classroom and imagining your future career opportunities. You’re seeing how your team makes a difference in the real world and each weekend presents another opportunity to explore more of the culture and country around you. On top of it, you’re learning about yourself and what you’re capable of. You’ll come back from this adventure eternally grateful for the opportunity and with a clearer vision of who you are and what you want out of life.
Now, let’s make it happen! Apply for a global internship through the Hinckley Institute of Politics today. We will work with you every step of the way to make your dream semester abroad come true. Interested students (even a little interested!) should meet with our global program director to identify a location and host office that best suits your interests. Together, you’ll map out a path to make an internship happen.
We have host offices in various countries that take University of Utah interns every semester. Depending on your comfort level, we can secure a spot for you in a city like Melbourne, Australia, where English is the primary language and you’d be one of several Utah interns. Or, if you’re a confident international traveler, we have spots in countries like India and Thailand where friendly host offices will welcome you and invite you to engage in their culture. Finally, if you already have a host office in mind where you have connections, we can help you secure funding and university credit for an internship with them.
Here’s what a few recent interns have to say about their experience:
Nicholas deCastro concluded his internship with the American Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne, Australia saying, “My experience as a global intern opened my mind in so many ways. As someone who had never left the U.S. before, visiting a new country was already unique enough, but being able to work and live here has truly been wonderful. I’ll be returning to Salt Lake City with a new understanding of how I can fit in wherever I may travel and a lot more love for Australia.”
Tiera Maile, psychology major and sociology minor has this to say after she returned, “I Interned with Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. I learned so much on my internship, not just in a professional sense but a personal sense as well. Professionally, I got my first taste of using psychology outside of school and in a work setting. It was so rewarding to research the population I would be working with first-hand and use that data to write appropriate counseling protocols for them. On a personal level, this was my first time away from my family for longer than a couple weeks and I was also away from everything I had ever known. Being all on my own out there forced me to grow and figure things out that I had never experienced before. I think my internship was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”
So don’t wait, apply today to start your global internship journey!
