“I’ve wanted to come to the U ever since I came here on a field trip in junior high. Even though it’s a bit far from home and I knew it would be expensive, I was determined to come here. In my senior year of high school, I was surprised when I got the For Utah scholarship. It felt like such a big relief when I got the scholarship because I thought that I might not be able to get into the U. Getting the scholarship meant a lot to me since it showed me that I can do this.

My family is from Mexico and opportunity is the reason my parents came here. It was an amazing moment for me and my family when I got the scholarship since this was exactly the kind of opportunity that they came for. I don’t have to worry about paying for school, which motivates me to work harder in my classes. I need to keep my grades up and make sure that I take all the time to study, so I can make the most of this scholarship.

In high school, I earned my certified nursing assistant certification and my phlebotomy license. Now, I am studying criminology and hope to go to the PA (physician assistant) school here. When I was young, my mom and I would always watch true crime shows together. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to understand what happens behind the scenes of solving a crime. It’s so interesting to me and I’ve always wanted to learn more about criminology.

The University of Utah has one of the best PA schools, so I would really love to go there. I’ve enjoyed my time here because everyone is so welcoming and nice. The support from advisors and professors makes me want to be here. “
