UIT will implement OpenRoaming and Passpoint on the University of Utah wireless network for campus guests on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. OpenRoaming and Passpoint will make it easier for guests to connect to the university’s Wi-Fi while providing a more secure connection.
After the change, guest devices will automatically connect to the U’s Wi-Fi network via OpenRoaming/Passpoint.
Depending on the device, some guests may receive on-screen prompts about connecting to an OpenRoaming/Passpoint-enabled network. For a list of compatible carriers and devices, please visit this IT Knowledge Base article (login required) or the UIT webpage.
Guests without compatible carriers and devices should connect using the UGuest web portal. For more information about UGuest, please access this IT Knowledge Base article (login required).
The change does not affect University of Utah Health hospital/clinics guests at this time. It should not affect users who have logged in to and saved a U Wi-Fi network (e.g., UConnect and ULink) in the past.
