Let’s get ready to race! The University of Utah is holding its first annual Soapbox Derby!

On Oct. 24, 2025, teams of six will put their vehicles to the test in a race on campus. Teams can be made up of anyone, students, faculty or staff. All you need is a design idea and a need for speed.

To join the race, register your team here and pay the $200 entry fee. Can’t afford $200? Scholarships are available. After you register, you can then pick up your derby kit and race supplies and start building. Be sure to check out the derby Instagram account for some inspiration, and stop by one of the two cart build nights at the University Build Shop on Oct. 3 and at the Lassonde Make Space on Oct. 18. Make sure you register first because space is limited.

Don’t feel like racing? You can still be a part of the fun. On Oct. 24, be sure to come watch some racing action from the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building to Library Plaza starting at noon. Check out more information here.
