“My journey with student involvement and engagement started when I first came to the University of Utah in 2020. Because it was near the end of the pandemic, things on campus weren’t as alive as they are now. I really saw the disconnect between myself, my social life and what the university offered. It was hard as an out-of-state student who was living off-campus to get involved.
But I made the decision that I needed to be more social in order to make the most of my college experience. My first step was entering the Greek system and there I met a lot of students who were very engaged and ambitious. My close friends encouraged me to get involved in student government because of the opportunity it provides to gain leadership experience and advocate for people.
My sophomore year, I ran for a student senate position and I became the senator for the College of Undergraduate Studies. During that time, I saw firsthand what an individual student could do to make a meaningful difference on campus, which is what led me to run for student body president.
Our vision as the executive branch is to help every student have a positive college experience and achieve their return on investment. To me, that looks like empowering and engaging students. ASUU is here to provide programming and events for students and then to advocate for them as well. I want to help students amplify their voices so they can be part of shaping the university experience they want.
During my time as president, I hope to become a better advocate as a leader. For me, supporting students in making their voices heard would be the best thing I could accomplish this year.”
