SUPPORT AND RESOURCES

With the end of the semester just a few weeks away, there are a variety of campus resources available to help students manage this busy time of year.

The end of the semester can be a busy and stressful time for students. The University of Utah offers a variety of resources and support services to help students do their best and manage their myriad responsibilities.

“We know many of our students are juggling school, work and families, among other obligations,” said Dean of Students Lori McDonald. “We want to do everything we can to assist them holistically. Whether students need extra study help through our tutoring services, need to give their minds a chance to rejuvenate through our mindfulness clinic or need to make sure they’re taking care of their health through our Student Health Center, we have them covered.”

More services available to students are listed below:

  • Campus Recreation Services: Physical exercise and connecting with nature can help students relax. Campus Recreation Services provides students with state-of-the-art exercise facilities, fitness programs, intramural sports and sport clubs, massage therapy, outdoor equipment rentals and more.
  • Counseling Center: The Counseling Center provides compassionate and confidential mental health services to students (and staff and faculty). A variety of services are available, including individual therapy and couples and group counseling.
  • Office of Equal Opportunity: The Office for Equal Opportunity is charged with protecting a respectful educational and work environment at the U so all members of the U community can achieve their goals and objectives. It implements and enforces policies on nondiscrimination. The office can assist with disability access and accommodation and pregnancy-related accommodations, among other things.
  • Office for Inclusive Excellence: The Office for Inclusive Excellence works to promote an inclusive and welcoming environment on campus through educational workshops, assessing campus climate and following up on reports of bias incidents.
  • International Student & Scholar Services: The ISSS Office serves as the primary campus contact for international students, scholars and alumni and can assist with answering questions about visas, campus involvement, university policies, adjusting to a new culture, etc.
  • Mindfulness Center: The practice of mindfulness encourages paying attention to the present. It develops the ability to let go of worries and fears and experience a sense of calm and curiosity. The Mindfulness Center is operated by the Counseling Center and offers free drop-in sessions, workshops and tips for practicing mindfulness on your own.
  • Personal Money Management Center: The Personal Money Management Center at the U provides a competent and confidential atmosphere where students can have access to accredited financial counseling services, quality financial education and appropriate tools to achieving lifelong successful financial outcomes.
  • Safeu.utah.edu: For a list of campus safety resources in one convenient location, visit safeu.utah.edu.
  • SafeUT app: The SafeUT Crisis Text and Tip Line is a statewide services that provides real-time crisis intervention through live chats and calls. Licensed clinicians from the U’s Neuropsychiatric Institute staff the 24/7 crisis line and respond to provide supportive or crisis counseling, suicide prevention and referral services.
  • Safety escorts: The Campus Security Division provides safety escorts for students, faculty and staff who are on campus at night or at odd hours. A safety escort can accompany you, either on foot or in a vehicle, to your dorm, vehicle or a campus building. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.   • Student Success Advocates: The U’s Student Success Advocates work with students in a holistic way in order to understand the many facets of their lives and how to best support them. They can assist with study skills and habits, time and stress management, and have knowledge of many resources and can direct students to the most relevant ones for their individual situation.
  • Student Health Center: Students, their spouses and dependents can receive medical care at the Student Health Center, which provides full service primary health care, preventive and well care, women’s health and family planning, pediatric services, a counseling clinic, immunizations and more.
  • Center for Student Wellness: The Center for Student Wellness aims to assist students in all areas of their lives, including intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, financial, environment and emotional. The center offers individual well coaching to help students achieve their personal physical and mental well-being goals, as well as victim advocacy for those who have experienced interpersonal violence.
  • ASUU Tutoring Center: There are a variety of tutoring and learning support services on campus. The ASUU Tutoring Center provides individual and group tutoring on a wide range of subjects as a reasonable rate.
  • Veterans Support Center: The Veterans Support Center provides support, advocacy and camaraderie to veterans and their families. Some services include VA educational benefit assistance, VA benefits and health services counseling, computer and printing resources, tutoring vouchers and peer support, as well as a lounge, study area, refreshments, events and more.
  • Women’s Resource Center: The Women’s Resource Center is a central resource for educational and support services for women. The center offers counseling, various support groups, emergency financial support and more.
  • University Writing Center: The Writing Center is a free service to students and faculty who are looking to develop strategies to become a better writer. The center provides individual consultations with peer tutors who can help with papers from all disciplines.
