The University of Utah Housing & Dining Programs are ready to welcome 5,600 residents during move-in from Aug. 12–14. All first-year incoming students who applied for housing at the U within the guaranteed period have received an offer to reserve a room for the coming year.
“Housing is a critical component of the ‘college town magic’ vision, and providing an efficient service to our students is our priority,” said Sean Grube, associate vice president for Housing & Dining Programs. “This is our second year in a row guaranteeing first-year students a place on campus, and we exhausted the guaranteed offer list before the Aug. 1 deadline. Our focus now transitions to move-in and opening a new residential building for fall 2026, providing additional opportunities for our students to live on campus.”
Move-in on campus
This year, IKEA Draper continues as the U’s official move-in partner, with IKEA staff helping to unload vehicles on both the lower and upper campuses, and running a U on-campus pickup location for online orders. See below for all the activities planned for students and guests.
Events: Incoming students and the whole campus community will be part of an unforgettable week with several events, including movie nights, a pop-up thrift shop and a farmers’ market. On Friday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., the Office of Residence Life has planned an all-residents’ gathering in the Jon M. Huntsman Center to celebrate the new year, learn more about living on campus and build community pride.
Dining: Students and families will be able to enjoy a meal on us from Aug. 12–14 from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. in both dining halls: Peterson Heritage Center’s United Table and Kahlert Village’s Urban Bytes. Dining staff members will be in these locations to discuss dietary restrictions, concerns or questions regarding dining services. Be sure to follow @uofudining for updates, events and food highlights.
A new tour room: Decorated by IKEA Draper, Housing & Dining Programs is launching their new self-guided tour room in Kahlert Village. Guests can visit the new showroom on the first floor of the building to get ideas for decorating their new rooms.
IKEA lounge: Families will have a space to relax while their students make friends and have fun. The lounge will be located in Kahlert Village’s courtyard during move-in. The area will have music, vendors, photo props, Pepsi products and more. For more information about the move-in experience, follow @uofuhousing.
Block U photo: All the fun activities end with one of the U’s best traditions, the Block U Photo on the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Students can register for the event here.
