RECOGNITION AND REUNIONS

An annual tradition since 1991, the School of Medicine Alumni Association to host alumni and medical community, Oct. 13 and 14, 2017.

By School of Medicine Alumni Association

In 1991 a group of School of Medicine alumni gathered together and formally incorporated the School of Medicine Alumni Association and began hosting an annual School of Medicine Awards Banquet to recognize members of the medical community and a series of events culminating in an evening for medical class reunions.

The association has grown significantly in the past 26 years, expanding their reach across all alumni of the School of Medicine and increasing attendance and programming for the Alumni and Community Medical Weekend. This year the weekend is occurring on Oct. 13 and 14, 2017.

The School of Medicine Distinguished Awards and Half Century Society Banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Little America Hotel. Distinguished recipients include Richard E. Black, M.D. ’74, Distinguished Alumnus, Charles W. Sorenson, M.D., FACS, House Staff ’82, Distinguished Service, Geoff Tabin, M.D., Distinguished Humanitarian and Barry Stults, M.D., House Staff, ’78, M. Paul Southwick Prize in Clinical Medicine and Teaching. Cost for the banquet is $70 per person.

The morning of Oct. 14, Jay Curtis, J.D., shareholder at Ray Quinney and Nebaker and Gunnar Crowell, J.D., director of Planned Giving, University of Utah Health, will host a free Estate Planning For Physicians program at the Little America Hotel between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.  If you have not updated your estate plan in recent years and are interested in tax-savvy general estate planning advice while also learning more about planned giving to save on taxes, create an income stream, and benefit your favorite charities, this seminar is for you.

Immediately after the Estate Planning for Physicians the CompHealth Community Clinical Faculty Appreciation and Awards Luncheon celebrating all community clinical adjunct faculty for the School of Medicine begins at the Little America at 12:30 p.m.  This recognizes all community adjunct clinical instructors who are integral to the education of our future health care providers. Two awardees, Chad Spain, M.D. and Maryellen Gilfeather, M.D. will receive an award and stipend for their excellent work mentoring and teaching our students and residents. The luncheon is free to all community clinical faculty members and a guest, $25 for all other attendees.
