Dear campus community,
Today’s act of violence at Utah Valley University, resulting in the death of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, is deeply disturbing.
Our deep condolences are with Mr. Kirk’s family, loved ones, and all who were present during this horrific incident.
We support the Utah System of Higher Education’s efforts to continue working to identify ways to keep our campuses safe and welcoming for everyone. The U’s Public Safety Department is working to increase safety measures on campus to make police officers available to speak to students, faculty and staff. Additional public safety patrols and layers of security will be present at university events today and the rest of the week.
We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at Utah Valley University as they navigate this difficult moment. The University of Utah has offered support, including public safety and mental health resources, to the UVU community and our own students who were at the event. Support services are available to anyone in our community who may be struggling in the aftermath of this tragedy.
U Public Safety is monitoring and collaborating with federal, state and local law enforcement, who are leading efforts to apprehend the suspect.
All University of Utah campuses and U of U Health Hospitals & Clinics remain open.
Sincerely,
Taylor Randall
