Looking for ways to impact your community this giving season?
Here are options for supporting University of Utah students, not only now, but year-round!
The Basic Needs Collective is a central organization that connects students with the resources they need to thrive in all areas of their lives. Your donation supports programs like the Feed U Pantry and The Wellness Exchange.
You can support the Feed U Pantry with financial or in-kind donations. The pantry accepts donations of non-perishable food, perishable food and hygiene products.
High-need items include:
- Instant and microwaveable meals (ramen cups, mac and cheese cups, rice or pasta pouches)
- Instant oatmeal packets or cups
- Canned soups, chili, and stews (with pull-top lids)
- Shelf-stable proteins (bagged or pouched tuna, chicken, or salmon)
- Protein and granola bars
- Nut butter packets or cups
- Shelf-stable milk or non-dairy milk boxes
- Quick snacks (trail mix, crackers, fruit cups)
To donate, email feedufoodpantry@gmail.com to coordinate pick-up or delivery. Bulk-packaged items are accepted, but smaller package sizes can serve more people. Items that are individually packaged and labeled are preferred. Items can also be dropped off at the Basic Needs Collective in the Union, room 294, or the Wellness Exchange in the Peterson Heritage Center.
If you or your organization would like to host a food drive, contact wellness@sa.utah.edu.
The Wellness Exchange is a pilot program in the Peterson Heritage Center (PHC) that provides students access 24/7 self-serve access to resources, including nonperishable and instant food items, a thrift store, personal hygiene items and wellness kits.
Donating to the Basic Needs Collective or the Parent Giving Fund helps financially support this service. If you’d like to give an in-kind donation, food and clothing are both greatly appreciated.
Food
Non-perishable, shelf-stable items such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta, pasta sauce or canned protein like chicken and tuna. Grab-and-go items like granola bars, protein bars, fruit leather and fruit cups are accepted.
Clothing
Everyday wear and professional clothing donations that are in good condition (no tears or stains). Shoes and accessories are welcome. Undergarments must be new and in original packaging.
Donations can be dropped off at the Wellness Exchange at the Peterson Heritage Center (PHC), in the clear plastic container right next to the door.
Parent Giving is an effort to create a collaborative community of parents who support the educational experience and the overall well-being of students. If you are the parent of a U student who would like to further your impact across campus, you can give to this fund as well as consider becoming a UParent Ambassador.
Ahead of the December holidays and winter break, the Center for Campus Wellness is hosting a “Thrift-a-Gift” donation drive. The proceeds from this drive will be available at no cost to U students through the Wellness Exchange. The deadline for donations has been extended to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. Find a list of suggested items and locations to drop off donations here.
