Finding connection at the U: How students use Campus Connect

When students arrive at the University of Utah, one of the first questions they ask is: “How do I get involved?” With more than 600 Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and events happening daily, the challenge isn’t a lack of opportunity—it’s knowing where to start.

That’s where Campus Connect, the U’s official student engagement platform, comes in. Managed through the Office for Student Leadership and Involvement, Campus Connect serves as a one-stop hub where students can discover organizations, RSVP for events, manage memberships, and build connections that make campus feel like home.

“Campus Connect is the heartbeat of student involvement at the U,” said Erica Andersen, senior associate dean of student engagement and leadership. “It gives students an easy, accessible way to explore what’s happening, meet people with similar interests and have a place to start creating and managing their own communities.”

Why it matters

Students who participate in clubs and student organizations are more likely to report stronger belonging, better well-being, improved academic outcomes and higher persistence to graduation. Involvement also provides leadership opportunities that build resume-ready skills—teamwork, communication, project management—and connects students to communities that make a big campus feel small.

With over 11,000 active users, Campus Connect is designed to be an online space for students wanting to get involved. Through the platform, students are able to discover all types of organizations—niche, academic, community-driven, career-specific—that meet their interests. Students can also use the platform to discover campus-wide events, workshops, leadership opportunities and service projects hosted by university offices and departments.

How it works

The platform works like a personalized guide for students looking to find a connection.

Some of its features include:

  • Groups tab: Browse hundreds of RSOs—from cultural clubs and academic societies to service and wellness groups.
  • Events feed: See what’s happening on campus, RSVP to events and add events to your personal calendar.
  • Membership tools: Join, manage and message your student organization and communities in one place.
  • Co-curricular Transcript: The system tracks your involvement in events, RSOs, leadership positions, volunteer hours and SWOOP badge progress and accomplishments.

Bottom line

Campus Connect is becoming more than just a website—it’s the foundation of community building at the U—helping students discover their communities, gain leadership skills and even find out about upcoming events, which all impact their college experience.
