[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]Awards are made to faculty to undertake projects that will enhance their teaching or the curriculum in which they teach. Tenure-line and Career-line faculty are eligible to propose individual and group grants. Preference will be given to applicants whose primary professional affiliation is as faculty at the University of Utah.

Awards are made for amounts up to $3,500 for individuals and $7,000 for groups for items such as equipment, supplies or travel where appropriate (see website for detailed instructions).

The deadline for applications is now March 11. [/bs_col]

[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]In its inaugural year, Student Leadership & Involvement is eager to celebrate the Student Leadership Awards. The vision of Student Leadership & Involvement is to empower students to be effective leaders, invested in positive change, by serving as a clearinghouse and training ground for impactful engagement across campus, within the community and around the world. In keeping with our vision, we are excited to provide all University of Utah offices and areas the opportunity to celebrate student leadership within their areas.

Nomination information for the traditional awards is now available at the Student Leadership & Involvement website. Nominations are due by Friday, March 11, at 5 p.m. via email to Student Leadership & Involvement. ONLINE GRADUATION APPLICATIONS AND DEADLINE FOR SUMMER 2016 CANDIDATES EXTENDED

U STAFF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR SUMMER 2016 SEMESTER

[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]The University of Utah Staff Council is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for staff development scholarships for the summer 2016 semester.

Each scholarship is worth up to $500 and can be used towards the employee’s tuition bill.  Scholarships can be used towards professional trainings, symposiums, conferences or workshops and their associated expenses.

The committee will process the scholarship applications in the most fair and judicious manner to benefit the employee, according to the procedures directed by the University of Utah policy. UUSC is an equal opportunity provider.

Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently working at 75 percent or above Full Time Equivalency (FTE) position (30-40 hours per week).
  • Maintained 75 percent or greater Full Time Equivalency (FTE) in a benefits eligible position for two consecutive years as of Feb. 29, 2016.
  • Have not received a Staff Council Scholarship within the past two years.

*Current Staff Council Members are not eligible.

[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]The University of Utah Staff Council is currently looking for positive, service-minded individuals to join. The UU Staff Council is an organization established by University Policy 5-003 to make sure the interests of staff on campus are represented. The University of Utah Staff Council had several achievements and was involved in many events during the 2016-2017 AY.

  • Awarded 13 scholarships at $500 each (summer, fall and spring)
  • Members participated in the District and Staff Excellence Award selections
  • Sponsored several events for staff including Shred Day where staff were able to shred personal documents and dispose personal eWaste at no charge, U-Nights at Real Salt Lake, Utah Grizzlies discount tickets and Salt Lake Bees discounted tickets
  • Members actively represent staff interests on several committees across campus
  • Members participated in the legislative process as advocates for staff of the U
  • Staff Council continues to co-sponsorship Employee Appreciation Day

6-WEEK STRESS COURSE FOR TEENS[bs_row class=”row”][bs_col class=”col-sm-4″]

[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]This six-week course is based on the Mindful Schools curriculum and teaches core mindfulness skills to stressed teens. Group leaders are school psychologists as well as certified yoga instructors and have completed mindfulness trainings, including the Mindful Schools curriculum course. The course is part of a research study sponsored by the University of Utah.

HEAD OF PRESERVATION TO RECEIVE AWARD FROM THE UTAH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, ARTS AND LETTERS[bs_row class=”row”][bs_col class=”col-sm-4″]

[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]Congratulations to Randy Silverman, head of Preservation at the Marriott Library. Silverman will be receiving the 2016 Gardner Prize from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters at the annual conference being held March 10 at Westminster College. The Gardner Prize is awarded every spring to recognize the outstanding academic contributions of an individual within the state of Utah and is made possible by the generous support of the Gardner Family.

Silverman, head of Preservation at the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library since 1993, has worked in the field of book conservation for 38 years. He holds a masters degree in Library Science from BYU and teaches preservation as an adjunct faculty member for Emporia State University, Dominican University and the University of Arizona. He is a founding member of the Western States and Territories Preservation Assistance Service (2007) and teaches disaster preparedness workshops throughout Arizona, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. He has 86 professional publications, has been involved in disaster recovery since 1986 (including Hurricane Katrina) and has presented professional lectures and workshops in 27 states and 11 countries outside the U.S. In 2013 he received the American Library Association’s Banks Harris Award for “outstanding achievement in the field of preservation” and was given a Fulbright Specialists award in 2014 to begin helping the National Library of Uzbekistan improve its preservation standards.[/bs_col]

CRIMSON CLUB ATHLETIC FUND KICKS OFF U BE COUNTED CAMPAIGN[bs_row class=”row”][bs_col class=”col-sm-4″]U-be-counted_Change_Student-1200x628-01 (1)[/bs_col]
[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]The Crimson Club Athletic Fund (CCAF) kicked off its annual `U Be Counted’ membership drive today with the goal of raising awareness and needed funds to enhance Utah’s student-athletes experience.

The CCAF is trying to reach every fan that has a passion for Utah Athletics. If you want to support Utah student-athletes or increase your financial pledge, know that any donation is providing the needed resources to be competitive in the Pac-12 and nationally. The funds raised in the U Be Counted campaign is critical in providing the operating budgets within athletic department.

“The cornerstone of the campaign is to demonstrate the many ways in which people can help support Utah’s student-athletes,” Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Ann Argust said. “The ‘U Be Counted’ membership drive will raise awareness of where Athletics needs addition funds – from tuition, housing, travel, recruiting, uniforms, medical care and the new full cost of attendance, just to name a few. Any donation helps our student-athletes and department grow and become more successful.”
