The Lauren McCluskey Foundation will host its 4th annual Race for Campus Safety on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Utah’s McCarthey Family Track & Field Complex.
The community event brings together hundreds of students, families and supporters to honor Lauren McCluskey’s life and continue her legacy by raising awareness and funds to improve how campuses nationwide respond to relationship violence and stalking.
This year’s race offers participants a choice of 1K, 5K or 10K routes, with opportunities to run, walk or volunteer. The event coincides with the second bye weekend for Utah Utes Football, giving the campus community time to gather in support of a cause that has positively shaped campus safety efforts in Utah and across the country.
“The Race for Campus Safety is a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and care for one another,” said Keith Squires, Chief Safety Officer at the University of Utah and member of the Board of Directors of The Lauren McCluskey Foundation. “Lauren’s legacy continues to guide the work we do every day to make our campus a place where every student, staff member and visitor feels safe, supported and valued. This race brings our community together around a common purpose: ensuring that safety, respect and accountability are at the heart of everything we do.”
Since its inception, the race has evolved into a community festival, offering family-friendly activities, educational booths and live entertainment throughout the day. Attendees can look forward to food and beverage vendors, yard games and meet-and-greets with Utah mascots, including the University of Utah’s Swoop.
The event also provides a platform for education and advocacy. Visitors will have access to resource and information booths featuring organizations dedicated to preventing relationship violence and supporting survivors.
Proceeds from registration fees and fundraising efforts directly benefit the Lauren McCluskey Foundation’s national initiatives in research, advocacy and programming to enhance campus safety and accountability.
The Race for Campus Safety has grown steadily since its inaugural year, drawing over 700 participants in 2024. Organizers hope to surpass that number in 2025.
Race check-in and opening announcements begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 1K start at 10 a.m., and 5k and 10K starts shortly thereafter. Participants can expect a fast, flat course winding through scenic campus routes, with views of the Wasatch Mountains and iconic University landmarks.
