ASUU Rail Jam brings the biggest snow party to campus Nov. 7

The University of Utah campus is gearing up for a night of snow sports action as the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) partners with Woodward Park City to present ASUU Rail Jam on Friday, Nov. 7, from 4-10 p.m.

The event will bring the energy of Utah’s mountain slopes straight to the Student Union Lawn, transforming it into a temporary snow park complete with rails, boxes and freestyle features.

“Students are drawn to the thrill of winter sports in the Utah mountains, so this year we’re excited to bring it to campus for all to enjoy,” said Alex Rose, ASUU student body president.

Beginning Nov. 2, the Student Union Lawn and Free Speech Area will undergo a dramatic makeover as experts from Woodward Park City—Utah’s premier year-round action sports destination—construct a custom-built setup designed to challenge and showcase the skills of student and professional skiers and snowboarders.

The event will feature four student competition divisions: Women’s Student Ski, Men’s Student Ski, Women’s Student Snowboard, and Men’s Student Snowboard. U students can register here to compete and battle it out for podium spots, prizes and campus bragging rights.

Adding to the excitement, professional athletes will join the action, performing in a pro exhibition and demo alongside student riders. The pros will share tips, techniques, and inspiration, helping elevate the level of riding throughout the night.

“This event embodies what Woodward is all about—progression, fun and bringing people together through action sports,” said Gar Trayner, General Manager of Woodward Park City. “We’re creating a space where students can compete alongside pros, experience world-class terrain park design, and see what winter sports culture is all about—right on their own campus.”

Beyond the competition, spectators can expect a mix of adrenaline-pumping tricks and a festival-like atmosphere with live DJ sets and a vendor village.

In keeping with ASUU and the U’s commitment to social impact, 50% of all event proceeds will go to the Huntsman Mental Health Foundation, supporting critical mental health resources for the community at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute’s Kem & Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center.

Admission to the ASUU Rail Jam is free for University of Utah students, staff and faculty. General public tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at the Student Union front desk. Tickets are available for pickup there Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

With winter just around the corner, the ASUU Rail Jam will be a night of action-packed freestyle skiing and snowboarding designed to celebrate Utah’s outdoor culture and the excitement that comes with the start of ski season.
