Campus Alert: Swatting incident at Kahlert Village not a credible threat

Salt Lake City Police Department received a call on a non-emergency line reporting a stabbing on campus. University of Utah Police received notice from Salt Lake City Police at 7:31 p.m.

The location of the threat was Kahlert Village, a residential hall on campus at 265 South 1850 East.

Salt Lake City Police and University Police responded to investigate. Police conducted a systematic floor-by-floor search and eventually found no victim or credible threat. This incident was classified as a swatting incident and is a serious crime. These incidents cause panic and draw police resources away from legitimate calls for service.  The incident mirrors similar swatting reports at two other U.S. universities this week.

The threat has passed and the area is safe. If any students are still sheltering, they can resume their normal activities.
