On Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, from 12:30-4:30 a.m., numerous and widespread university IT services will be repeatedly disrupted due to maintenance at the U’s data centers.

Affected services include:

  • Login services for multiple services, including CIS, Canvas, Box, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, GlobalProtect VPN, PeopleSoft, ServiceNow, etc.
  • UMail
  • Some phone (voice) services, including Avaya Call Management System (CMS), Avaya Conferencing System, Call Recording, Call Back Assist, Elite Multichannel (EMC), HMHI Crisis Screen Pop, SBO IVR (automated payments), SPOK, Survey Assist and Synergy SKY
  • utah.edu websites
  • Unit (department/college/center/org) IT services dependent on U data centers
  • Network-connected and centralized printing, such as RedPrint

Details:

UIT will replace network devices, which will impact network connectivity in the university’s data centers (Downtown Data Center and Tonaquint Data Center). Affected IT systems and services are those that rely on the network to and from university data centers, including the colocation area of the Downtown Data Center.

Data center-dependent service owners and their end users should expect several minutes of intermittent downtime.

Data center-dependent service owners who elect to shut down their systems/applications for the duration should notify their users of the extended downtime and validate that their systems/apps are operating as expected after the maintenance ends.

A reminder about this maintenance event will be posted in the IT Community channel in Microsoft Teams (login required).

If you have questions, your local IT support staff may be able to assist, or you may contact your respective help desk: UIT Help Desk (801-581-4000) or ITS Service Desk (801-587- 6000).
