Associate Vice President for Financial Services Steven Phillips recently announced that Kristen Fowler was selected as the new associate controller for the University of Utah and Zachary Christensen accepted the position of chief procurement officer.
Fowler brings 20 years of accounting experience in the private sector and higher education to the job. Most recently, she served as associate director of Financial Reporting and Accounting in Financial Services. As associate controller, she will oversee Financial Reporting and Accounting (FRA), Financial Services Technology Support (FSTS), Tax Services, Surplus and Salvage and the Bursar’s Office.
“Kristen’s knowledge, experience with process improvement and sound understanding of the general ledger and accounting principles are crucial as the university moves toward Impact 2030,” said Phillips.
Christensen has more than 15 years of procurement and contract experience, including work at Lockheed Martin, the State of Utah Division of Purchasing, the Utah State Board of Higher Education, as an instructor at the National Institute of Government Procurement and most recently at the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO).
He will collaborate with existing purchasing staff to help support the university with travel, procurement and payment needs.
“I look forward to watching both Kristen and Zac use their expertise to lead these important groups on campus as the institution continues to evolve,” Phillips said.
