The College of Science is hosting the university’s STEM Safety Day on Friday, Oct. 2. All members of the campus community are invited to attend this opportunity to refocus on workplace and lab safety.

This free annual all-day event features seminars, trainings and other sessions designed to help people better understand and mitigate the health and safety hazards associated with working in STEM fields on campus. People in non-STEM fields will also find programming applicable to their areas of work. Sessions will be offered in one- to two-hour blocks throughout the day at the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House, beginning at 8 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

If you plan to attend, register here.

Learning sessions include Mental Health Crisis De-Escalation and Psychological Safety aimed at cultivating a climate of safety, improvement and wellbeing. Some sessions are hands-on, such as laser safety training, basic first aid, off-road driving and vehicle inspection and fire extinguisher use. Other seminars are designed to keep students, faculty and staff up to date on the latest regulatory requirements, such as the Demystifying Laser and NIR EHS Permit Requirements on Campus seminar.
