On Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, UIT will upgrade the University of Utah’s outgoing email service.
The change will not affect university UMail and Gmail accounts; however, those that send email or notifications through smtp.utah.edu may require updates to prevent a disruption in service. Older multifunction devices (e.g., printers, copiers and scanners) are most likely to be affected, as they may no longer be able to support the scan-to-email feature after the change.
Local IT staff and system owners should inventory, review and test all devices, applications, servers, scripts and services that send automated email before Oct. 1, 2026. Units with affected multifunction devices should do so if they are unable to update or immediately replace them.
